Apalachicola Image Bank
Posted 11/12/2004 11:24:21 AM by Neil Theasby

Hi! I'm from Sheffield, England. Thanks for the Apalachicola image collection. It brought back happy memories of our Panhandle vacation in 2001. I think of Apalachicola as a special place - land and sea merging, the pelicans, the oysters, sub-tropical weather, echoes of paddle steamers and days gone by. When I got home, I wrote a song about the town - well my idea of it - maybe it's different living there. Good luck with your new website! Nice to surf in and be the first to comment on the image bank.

Researching My Montgomery Family

What a wonderful place to vist and would love to be able to pack up and move to the land of my children vactions with my Montgomry Family. The beaches were better back then in the 30' and early 40's. My Uncle Jim Anderson.s Oyster House was a marvelous place to go and eat warm oysters in the shell, stand on his pier and watch the boats come in. I owe my Aunt Bertha Montgoemry Anderson and Uncle Victor Anderson so much for such wonderful memories of Apalachicola. Riding on a bike to the drugstore for a rootpbeer float at age ten and eleven, fish fries on the beach and being taught to swim by my cousin "Bubba", Victor Raymond Anderson. Walking on oyster shells is now a thing of the past but a wonderful childhood memory. Now at he age of 77 years, I have such wonderful recall of those
beautiful days in the Apalachicola summers of my youth. If I could get my family to move with me, it would takes less than a day to pack. I would love to live in the recently painted house on a corner near the tall water tank that was my Aunt and Uncles home, Victor and Bertha Montgomery Anderson. I only have one relative remaining in my beloved Apalachicola, Lloyd Oliver Montgomery. What a pleasure to recall those wonderful days with him. When he is gone, my Apalachicola will remain, but something of great love and importance will be missing from Apalachicola, Franklin, Florida.

Was stationed at Camp Gordon Johnston in 2nd war. Wife lived in town in Appalachicola in the house that is now a bank. Visited there & they were kind enough to take us through the bank & wifes, room is now the " board room" of the bank. She wanted to see fireplace once again. Thanks for the memories it brought back & we did visit the drugstore where we only had enough money for a soda now & then & to listen to jukebox. Thanks for those memories
